Swift Parrot.
2021
Oil on canvas
45.7 x 45.7cm
.
Small, cheeky and brightly coloured, Swifties are the world's fastest parrot and also one of the smartest.
They are one of the few truly migratory parrots in the world. Breeding only in Tasmania before flying across Bass Strait to forage on the flowering eucalypts of the Australian mainland.
Sadly the Swift Parrot is critically endangered.
If you would like to learn more, check out www.bobbrown.org.au.
There you can sign a petition to end logging of the ancient growth Tasmanian forests, the habitat of the parrot, crucial to its survival.

Self Portrait.
2020
Oil on canvas
91 x 121cm
Combining traditional portraiture techniques with the impact of scale to depict the notion of self, “Self Portrait” captures the shared magnetism both the seagull and artist have towards the coast. The mutual interconnected and interdependence to the coastline evokes a sense of belonging, peace and home. The coast inspires, intimidates, is free and unbound. A source of recreation, rejuvenation and discovery.
The seagull embodies the sound, image and memory of the coastline, however is often overlooked. The impact of size amplifies its significance to the coast, whilst the use of softness and colour offers a new perspective.
The seagull, just like the artist, is happy to have ones feet in the water.
